The Orchid Tree Inn reimagines a cherished Palm Springs landmark as a boutique luxury resort and spa. Located just steps from downtown, the project restores eight Class 1 Spanish Colonial Revival bungalows, originally built in 1930 by an unknown architect as the Sakarah Apartments, later known as the Orchid Tree Inn.
At the heart of the property stands the Community Church of Palm Springs, designed in 1936 by William Charles Tanner, where President Dwight D. Eisenhower once worshiped during his stay in 1954. Subsequent alterations by Williams & Williams in 1947 and 1952 further shaped the church’s evolution before it suffered severe fire damage in 2013 and again in 2022.
The revitalized campus preserves and celebrates this layered history while introducing a new resort building with 74 guest rooms and suites, 20 condominiums, a fitness center, and a full-service spa, each with private balconies overlooking the surrounding mountains. The restored church now anchors the property as the hotel’s reception, restaurant, and bar, while a new event building offers banquet spaces and a poolside café, creating an experience of timeless desert elegance rooted in Palm Springs’ architectural legacy.
