Conceived as a dense urban infill apartment community in Korea Town, the design approach was to break up the monotonous repetition of the usual stacked unit apartment building design while retaining the same efficiencies normally found in stacked designs. The Serrano retains a unit mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom family units arranged around a landscape courtyard fronted by a laundry and community room. A recreation room spills onto a sidewalk adjacent patio providing a resident amenity that addresses the sidewalk while providing for social interaction and surveillance for the neighborhood.
