Concurrent with the construction of the new Commonwealth Building, this project undertakes a comprehensive restoration of the historic Sheraton Town House, including a voluntary seismic retrofit, full accessibility upgrades, and a modernization of all utility infrastructure.
Sheraton Hotel
Originally completed in 1929, the Sheraton Town House is a distinguished example of late Beaux-Arts classical architecture and one of the most prominent luxury apartment buildings of its era in the fashionable Wilshire District. Converted into a luxury hotel in 1937, it became a social landmark of Los Angeles—home to the storied Zebra Room nightclub, where Elizabeth Taylor celebrated her first marriage.

Designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1993 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997, the building was later converted to affordable housing in 1999. The current restoration maintains its 134 residential units while introducing new interior finishes, appliances, and fixtures, preserving both the building’s historic grandeur and its ongoing role as a vital part of the community.
