Located at the corner of Melrose Avenue and Spaulding Road, The Midas is a three-story mixed-use development featuring 24 apartments above 5,000 square feet of street-level commercial space, currently home to a rotating pop-up gallery. The project serves as an urban infill intervention, transforming a vacant lot into an active hub of density, art, and community along the vibrant Melrose corridor.
Inspired by Los Angeles’ punk heritage and the fluid elegance of a white summer dress, The Midas combines attitude and refinement—its softly undulating white façade wraps the corner in a gesture that’s both sculptural and expressive.
Glossy gold tile accents trace circulation towers and planters like jewelry against fabric, shimmering in the California light. The building rises to 42 feet, a story above its neighbors, signaling the future of denser, design-forward urban development on Melrose.
Inside, floor-to-ceiling windows flood units with indirect daylight, while above, a rooftop deck with seating, fitness space, and a dog walk offers residents panoramic views of the Hollywood Hills. At street level, digital screens spanning up to 46 feet wide wrap the building’s corner, merging architecture and media into a living canvas that engages the public realm.
The Midas stands as both a celebration of Melrose’s creative spirit and a model of responsible infill growth, blending design, culture, and sustainability into a contemporary urban landmark.
