Completed in partnership with LINC Housing, Cadence transforms a once-abandoned lot just north of the 105 Freeway into a vibrant 64-unit permanent supportive housing community. In a neighborhood long lacking green space, the project emphasizes connection to nature, community engagement, and sustainability as drivers of design.
Organized around lushly planted outdoor areas and a naturally ventilated promenade, Cadence weaves its circulation and amenity spaces into a continuous open-air network that encourages interaction and fosters a sense of belonging.
The design contrasts two distinct building volumes—one clad in dark gray siding with a multi-angled roofline recalling nearby Craftsman homes, and the other a white plaster mass with floating chartreuse balcony walls hovering above a transparent ground floor.
The project was celebrated at its grand opening in 2022 by Congresswoman Maxine Waters and former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. Widely recognized as a model for future affordable housing, Cadence demonstrates how thoughtful design and sustainability can shape communities where residents truly thrive.
